Jerry introduced us the app PLICKERS which is a student clicker like tool- students are given unique cards which they can hold up to represent an A-D multiple choice answer. Jerry can quickly scan the classroom and his camera picks up all the cards responses and can even assign those responses to an individual student. (See video below)
Phil talked about Kahoot! A student response system where you can set up a quiz, survey etc. on you computer and students can navigate to a web site on their phones or tablets to do a game like quiz. Very fun and game like....good for assessing general knowledge or review, prob not so good for specific stuff on students.
(It keeps track of the student Nickname, but not data on each student.)

Sounds like you had a good discussion. I read a book this summer that discussed "gamification" in different elements of life - voting, education, etc. He warned about the short-term gains that are involved and what we trade for the extrinsic motivation in games. The book is called "To Save Everything, Click Here" (Evgeny Morozov). Just a thought as we are looking at different tools.
