Top 10 Mac Mini Tips! #5-10

Ever have trouble like this?

  • Mouse doesn't work
  • keyboard doesn't work
  • desktop/screen seems frozen
  • revolving WHEEL OF DEATH never leaves!
  • put in flash drive, screen freezes
  • untold other sad sad stories that make you want to throw it out the window
Believe it or not, 87% of all issues can be solved with a hard restart of your machine.

Steps:
  • Press and HOLD the power button on your Mac Mini (not the Monitor)
    • this will cause the screen to go black
    • let it rest for about 10 seconds
  • Press and RELEASE the power button to resume start up.
This should help everything work better.

TIP- It is recommended that you shut down your Mac Mini every night to clear up any issues that you might be having with your computer.

GOOD LUCK!

Click it Tuesday!

Today we talked about two clicker classroom systems...

Jerry introduced us the app PLICKERS which is a student clicker like tool- students are given unique cards which they can hold up to represent an A-D multiple choice answer. Jerry can quickly scan the classroom and his camera picks up all the cards responses and can even assign those responses to an individual student. (See video below)

Phil talked about Kahoot! A student response system where you can set up a quiz, survey etc. on you computer and students can navigate to a web site on their phones or tablets to do a game like quiz. Very fun and game like....good for assessing general knowledge or review, prob not so good for specific stuff on students.
(It keeps track of the student Nickname, but not data on each student.)

Did you know...

There is now a DOCS App, SLIDES (really good) and SHEETS app for iPad

Example- the SLIDES app loads the slides faster than with the web iPad app. Jerry found when using Airserver to the Mac- it would change the formatting and view of the images etc. The SLIDES iPad app  very consistent.

Tech issues projecting iPad

Some troubles with projecting from the iPad or iPhone even with the dongle.  Apparently it doesn't have the power to shoot all the way to the projector. Phil has experimented with a signal booster  from Amazon and has had SUCCESS!

You can check it out from the library!

Tuesday April 29

Nice Meeting for Tech Tuesday today!

Here are some cool things we talked about today:

MoveNote- great Chrome extension that activates Camera and displays docs, ppt or images while you narrate. stores video on site and gives you a URL to share.
Vigil and I used it for student preso (see example) so that they could share their assessment Kiosk/museum style with other students.
Also available as an app from google play or itunes for iPad, iPhone or Tablet
Great for flipped/blended classroom model for google extensions, also an APP
*will get Hyperlink for iTunes and website soon.

Cam Scanner - lite (suggested by Chris!)
scan documents and select a portion of it, crop it, enhance it to get rid of background
share documents
Chris suggests: What if a student scans their homework, cleans it with camscanner, shares with with you in google drive.

Inkflow… Kate G
note taking tool- but with cool enhancements
select text, move it make it bigger, attach to something else.

penultimate - Kloster
note taking tool

How to view and edit your docs
smart office  Kloster
if you need offline access to
allow you to word process even on your phone

Google docs APP
see and edit your google docs

Haiku Deck- Kate -
Presentation tool-
Kate G uses it for art pieces, easy to upload images, can put text in, has a presenter mode shows what you have uploaded...turn it sideways (portrait mode) and the slide you display is shown with your notes below. Very cool. Kate can send to projector through Air Share and walk around class to present. Can’t embed video. Links online with account...can access and share with students.

March 4th!

Nice meeting today where we discussed the use of iPads in classrooms, and what cool things folks are doing with them.

Nearpod- can broadcast to student iPads and Smart Phones. Can send ppts, questions, freeze screen etc. Nice for when we want to push information.

Google chat and forms in Jerry's Photo class as a discussion piece. (Ask Jerry for more info)

Air-Share- Jerry had another log in on his sign in, so Josh W is going to try to do some wireless sharing from his iPad to his Mac (docs, camera, etc) Will update us next time.

There are currently 16 modules in the Learning Tech Plan CLASSES web site. Classes include iPad Basics, Flipped Classroom, iPad as Planner etc. There are even Face to Face classes that mirror the online...here is the link to the iPad Basics (March 19&20) in SVVSD PD.

Here is a link to a nice article about the classes from Zac Chase. You can take 4 online courses (about 2 hrs each) for .5 credit

For more information about the Learning Tech Plan Visit their web site!

Did I forget anything? :)
